My name is Jurjis Jarvis, I am a 3 times award winning fashion designer, creating women and mens clothing. I came from the beautiful island of Saint Kitts and Nevis, I remember, being very young, just before heading to the U. S. A., I was in the principais office say goodbye, she said to me you are going to America to make a name for yourself. A few days later me and my aunt boarded the plane. It was very exciting and I saw great possibilities, because I knew that I was very creative. And once I was here I continued making jewelry and coconut sculpture. People were always fascinated to see someone my age selling my work on the streets of New York City.
While in high school I started showing fashion design interest, I had decorated my jeans, and I won the denim competition 2 years in a row just before graduation. My life was being shaped through my jewelry too.
I was invited to show my jewelry in a fashion show up in Harlem. I became
fascinated with the designers sketches as we matched my jewelry with his sketched designs. That’s when the revelation and inspiration hit me, there and then, I said to myself, man I can do this to. My excitement was full, and I sketched all the way home as I rode the train back that night. I told my aunt, when I got in that I was going to start making clothes, she replied, who is going to make them for you? You don’t know how to sew. And I replied back, I am. Thus started my designer career; I am self taught.
I decided to focus on fashion designing. and 2 years after that decision, 1
entered and won 3 designers competitions. One of them awarded me a trip to Paris, there I was featured in a very special show which was televised from the hotel. I also took part in the prestigious Pret a Porte trade show. I have taken part in several major fashion events.
For the past few years I have been presenting my women and mens collections
in the New York fashion week independently. My work is seen and is worn all over the world. My creative abilities, along with my spiritual principles has brought me a great way. This blessed journey continues and I am very thankful …….
I have always enjoyed designing both male and female fashion. I am aiming to dress those who are ready to wear clothing that moves fashion forward within their personal style. Creativity for me is a spiritual thing, I have chosen to allow myself to this flow. I want people to look and feel good in their clothes,, with confidence. my clothes are beautiful and they are meant to connect you to experience the pleasure of wearing clothes… this is creative energy that I put into my design ideas.
